Mildreda - Coward Philosophy: new album out now

New album out now!
13 brand new tracks + 20 tracks of bonus material

Buy at bandcamp.com

Today with this monster 33-track “Coward Philosophy” release, MILDREDA displays a solid dark elektro tour de force. MILDREDA adds a killer album to the legacy of the classic 90’s dark elektro genre bringing back to life the sound of bands like PLACEBO EFFECT, NUMB, YELWORC, IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES or even early PROJECT PITCHFORK and also MENTALLO & THE FIXER. MILDREDA offers sinister cold sequences, aggressive vocals, KLINIKal bombastic beats and noir haunting atmospheres in a top-notch poignant production quality that instantly grasps you by the throat until suffocation.

Created in the early 90’s, MILDREDA is actually the first band created by the Belgian artist Jan Dewulf mostly known today under the DISKONNEKTED moniker and its impressive discography.

After having been in limbo for way too many years, it was in 2009, when the Belgian enfant-terrible launched the crazy idea to do a one-night show again with his MILDREDA gang for a birthday party… That reunion gig resurrected the MILDREDA spirit, offering the opportunity for Jan to revisit and exorcise his darker roots and reinforce the project’s dense and powerful atmospheres thanks to new recording technologies and Jan’s expanded own studio gear… 13 new tracks were recorded and remained hidden until now... Today, with “Coward Philosophy”, MILDREDA adds a killer album to the legacy of the classic 90’s dark elektro genre bringing back to life the sound of bands like PLACEBO EFFECT, NUMB, YELWORC, IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES or even early PROJECT PITCHFORK and also MENTALLO & THE FIXER. MILDREDA offers sinister cold sequences, aggressive vocals, KLINIKal bombastic beats and noir haunting atmospheres in a top-notch poignant production quality that instantly grasps you by the throat until suffocation.

For the occasion of this digital-only release, MILDREDA also decided to add as bonus to this new album the band’s original blueprint sound in the form of a fully remastered version of his today cult 1996 demo tape “De Laffe Denker” as well as an amazing recording of the live gig that MILDREDA played in Bruges (Belgium) on March 14th 1998 as the opening band for PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE and TERMINAL CHOICE. An amazing time-travel back to the good old days of dark elektro...

It was in the early 90’s that Jan Dewulf created MILDREDA – then, a Belgian 16 year old kid launching his dark elektro project strongly influenced by other Belgian cult bands like THE KLINIK and their cold and oppressive type of sound… Throughout the years, MILDREDA started gaining a strong reputation on the Belgian electro scene, performing live together with bands like PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE, TERMINAL CHOICE, COVENANT, VNV NATION, etc. And it’s at the turn of the millennium that Jan felt the urge of to put his adventures in dark elektro land on hold to explore new electronic music realms, incorporating more modern dance, break beat, ambient and even synth pop influences with his new compositions: DISKONNEKTED was born, his new experimental studio output where everything was possible, no limit, no constraint, simply constantly surprising the fans who could literally expect the unexpected of each new DISKONNEKTED release, “Hotel Existence” being his latest CD album to date from a quite impressive discography.

Today with this monster 33-track “Coward Philosophy” release, MILDREDA displays a solid dark elektro tour de force that will absolutely erase your dirty sick minds… Do not pray: run for shelter! The MILDREDA beast is back in town!

Some good news, some bad news, and some very good news

The EP is ready and is waiting for its release on September 19th. This day happens to be my birthday so there’s plenty of reason to have a party that day!

We feel very excited about the EP. The remixes are absolutely great and there is some pretty cool additional stuff. We also recorded a video for the Neuroticfish mix of Yesteryears. We’ll release the video next week.

Unfortunately there won’t be a physical release of the EP. Alfa Matrix decided not to because of the tough conditions in music industry land. We’re sorry about that.
But we’ll hope to make you happy with a stunning digital 10-track-EP!

And then there's Didier 'Snake' Salvatore who became the proud father of his first born son Rafael. A big hurray to Ellen and Didier!

Announcing the forthcoming Yesteryears EP

We are excited to announce a forthcoming club EP with some extraordinary remixes. Main theme is the track ‘Yesteryears’ from our current album ‘Hotel Existence’. ‘Yesteryears’ was originally introduced on Septic X by Dependent Records.

We are proud both Neuroticfish and Edge of Dawn made astonishing club versions. We made a new club edit ourselves, and we’re happy to introduce the new solo project by our keyboard player, Liquid Newt, showcasing his promising skills with a remix.

This Morn' Omina joins the impressive tracklist with a remix for our track ‘Tunnel Vision’, while Halo In Reverse re-imagined the landscape of our ‘Neverland’. And then there’s that new club edit of ‘Empty’ and the heavy beat re-interpretation of the old ‘Personal Demon’.

We’re still working on a final tracklist, but we hope you are thrilled already. Out this fall on Alfa Matrix. Visual artist Ishoothorizon, who shot the cover picture, will join us again for a new video.

Beat Magazine (D) Remix & Mashup special

Those of you speaking German should check out the current edition of Beat Magazine covering all there is to know about remixes and mashups. Diskonnekted is featured twice in two elaborate ‘how to’ articles taking you step by step through the world of remixing and mashups. Both the remix and the mashup are included on the DVD accompanying the magazine.

First, there’s our track ‘Empty’ being mixed together with ‘Kites’ by the German electro project Strobotone. You can read in Beat Magazine how they mashed things up. And then there’s the remix: Edge of Dawn rearranged ‘Yesteryears’ for this special occasion. How about that! The result is catchy as hell and will be featured on a forthcoming EP after summer. (A new EP? Yes that’s right, but hush hush, more about that soon!)

My ode to ‘Mr. Nobody’ by Jaco Van Dormael.

I’ve always been very intrigued by quantum mechanics and its philosophical implications. Is there another world where I made different choices? Better choices perhaps? Are there other versions of myself in parallel universes?

‘Mr. Nobody’ is a beautiful movie by Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael dealing with these questions. It’s a wonderful visualisation of these philosophical issues interwoven with a touching love story.

After watching the movie, I wrote the lyrics and music of ‘Stuck in one universe’ in one rush the next morning. I don’t think I ever wrote and finished a track that fast. The video is my ode to ‘Mr. Nobody’ and a salute to Jaco Van Dormael.

Dark Place video launched

Visual artist Romuald ‘Ishoothorizon’ Swieconek made his own interpretation on ‘Dark Place’ from the album ‘Hotel Existence’. He focused on the bipolarity of the track and translated the duality into a dark visualisation of good versus bad, dream versus nightmare,...

It was a pleasure to have my little niece and godchild Marie Dewulf playing the main role.

Ghost & Writer

Out already on Metropolis (USA) and soon on Dependent (Europe): 'Red flags' by Ghost & Writer.

We are very happy we had the opportunity again to remix a track. Inspired by progressive dance, we built the remix around some Sasha-samples and intermixed it with some lush guitars we recorded ourselves.

GNY featured on Grrrls Manifesto I

Out now on Alfa Matrix: Absolute Grrrls Manifesto I

Imagine Crystal Castles remixed by The Prodigy. Raving breakbeats, sampled guitars, and heavy female vocals. This is what our very first GNY track sounds like. GNY is our female fronted side project.

So what's it all about? What's the magic in female power? Gwenny (GNY) nicely illustrates it: "Have you ever hurt your knee when you were a kid? And wasn’t it so much better when your mom gave a little kiss on the sore spot than when your dad did so? That’s the difference, hard to tell exactly what it is, there’s just a different touch to it".
